    Black Mirror

The obsidian surface used by Aztec priests, John Dee, and centuries of folk diviners. Soften your gaze into the dark — let images surface in the mist, not on it.

    How to Scry

    • Dim the room. A single candle behind or beside you is the traditional setup.
    • Soften your gaze. Look into the mirror, not at the surface. Let your eyes go slightly out of focus.
    • Hold a question loosely. Form it once, then release it. Grasping closes the channel.
    • Sit at least 10 minutes. The first five are the eye adjusting. Real images surface afterwards.
    • Record everything. Patterns across many sessions are the actual data — not any single vision.

    Step by Step

How to scry with the Black Mirror

Use an animated obsidian surface for catoptromancy and journal what surfaces across sessions.

    Approx. 15 min

    1. 1

      Dim the room

Lower ambient light and reduce screen brightness. Scrying depends on low contrast for the mirror to come alive.

    2. 2

      Soften your gaze

Look at the mirror's center without focusing. The trick is the same as Magic Eye stereograms — let the eyes relax.

    3. 3

Hold a question or open mind

Either bring a specific question or stay open. Both are traditional approaches.

    4. 4

      Stay with the surface

Allow 5–15 minutes. Shapes, faces, or motion may emerge from the visual noise as the brain pattern-matches.

    5. 5

      Record what surfaces

After the session, write what you saw in the journal. Patterns become visible across multiple sessions.
